Meet the Dancers!

Ricardo - Director of Hurricane Tumbao
(See full bio on the “Biography” page.)
Ricardo’s love for salsa music and dance is deeply rooted in his ability to interpret and understand the rhythmical structures that reside within salsa. An experienced musician of the piano, percussions and guitar, Ricardo quickly picked up the rhythm and timing for salsa and tapped into the passion that he feels when hearing the music. In a short time, he has established himself as one of the most recognizable salseros in the northwest, as well as one of the premiere salsa/mambo dancers.

Jerome - (Dancer) Jerome is one of the founding members of the dance company. When Jerome is not dancing and performing, he is fighting fires for the Portland Fire Department and doing crossfit. Jerome, 3 2 1 GO!

Josh - (Dancer) Josh came on board with Hurricane Tumbao in late 2007. When he is not out dancing, he is a bar owner and entrepeneur in his non-salsa life.

Danica - (Dancer, Instructor): Danica has been with the company since January 2008 and has progressed rapidly with her dedication and great attitude. Aside from being a promising dancer, Danica was a competitive gymnast in her early years and an OSU Beaver Cheerleader in her college years. We look forward to great things from her. Welcome Danica!

Shin - (Dancer, HT Training Team Instructor): Shin has recently joined Hurricane Tumbao and we are excited to have her knowledge and experience as an addition to our family. She competed in the 2007 World Salsa Championship Semifinals and her dedication to her craft is well noted. Welcome Shin!

Kara - (Dancer): Kara has dance training in multiple forms of dance, but she has chosen salsa through which to channel and express all of her passion for dance. Kara came aboard in late 2007. When she is not dancing, she is tending to her early language acquisition business, coordinating and teaching children the skills to develop other languages at an early age.

Hurricane Tumbao Team History

This is Hurricane Tumbao

Hurricane Tumbao Dancers was formed in late September of 2006, but did not officially debut as a group until April 28th of 2007. Even though this group is very new, the standard of excellence for performance, competition, instruction, dance technique and social dance (in general) in Portland is being pushed to a new level thanks to the dedication and hard work of the company’s performing members.

The West Coast Salsa Congress, May 24-27 was the debut of the Hurricane Tumbao Dancers at a World Salsa Event, only one month after debuting as a team for the very first time! It truly was a special occasion. Since then, the Hurricane Tumbao Dancers have continued to improve through hard work, practice and experience. Such is the example of the 2007 SF/Bay Area Salsa Congress, where the Hurricane Tumbao Dancers performed and represented Portland, OR well. The group’s shining moment to this point has been performing Saturday night at the 2007 Seattle Salsa Congress in the same show as some of salsa’s best in the world such as Yamuleé, Salsamania, Yesenia & Griselle and Jayson Molina. Continuing the growing tradition of exciting audiences one city and one state at a time, the Hurricane Tumbao Dancers will be performing at these future events:

the 2008 New York Salsa Congress for the first time ever!

We will continue to raise the bar on our Company standard of excellence and the standard of excellence for salsa and latin dance in Portland, OR.

Hurricane Tumbao Mission Statement

To gain recognition in Portland and beyond as having top quality salsa performances and a standard of excellence in salsa dance training for performance and social dance.
